A Short List of Recommended Political Reforms

The following is a short list of political reforms that could have a significant beneficial impact on the United States. The reforms address key structural deficits in the US federal government and are presented in order of their importance. If you agree with them, please support efforts to implement them through constitutional amendments and federal and state laws.

Proposal 1: Reform the House of Representatives

  • Increase the number of representatives to at least 1200

  • Require that states form multimember districts (MMD) with a minimum of 3 representatives each

  • Require that all of the representatives for a district be elected in an election using ranked choice voting

  • Give the House the unrestricted ability to remove any federal official or employee by a 2/3 vote in favor of such removal (i.e. no Senate conviction required and no "proof of crime" requirement)

Proposal 2: Reform the Executive Branch

  • Disaggregate the executive branch into independent agencies, each with a specific mission

  • Assign the House responsibility for approving each agency's charter and rules of operation

  • Make the chief executive officer of each agency subject to a recall referendum every two years

  • Require all presidential appointments and dismissals to be confirmed by a 2/3 vote in favor by the House

  • Require all presidential pardons to be confirmed by a 2/3 vote in favor by the House

Proposal 3: Reform the Senate

  • Reduce the number of senators to 1 senator per state

  • Have each state's senator appointed by the governor of each state

  • Limit the Senate to only having veto power over federal legislation, tariffs, and treaties

  • Require a 2/3 vote by the Senate in favor of any such veto

  • Give the President the ability to overturn a Senate veto

Proposal 4: Reform the Supreme Court

  • Require Supreme Court justices be reconfirmed annually by the House after they reach age 80

Proposal 5: Reform the Legislation Enactment Process

  • Require that all proposed federal laws and amendments thereof be drafted by the executive branch

  • Require that all proposed federal laws and amendments thereof be enacted by a 2/3 vote in favor of the law or amendment by the House

Proposal 6: Implement True Equal Treatment Under the Law

  • Prohibit government agencies (federal, state, and local) from taking any action that intentionally favors or disfavors any citizen or group of citizens based on any of the following factors:

    • sex, race, ethnicity, religion, ancestry, political affiliation, and/or sexuality

  • Require government agencies to make a good faith effort to address any perceived disparity related to the above listed factors in regard to their actions

  • Prohibit government agencies from compelling citizens to categorize themselves based on racial, ethnic, political, and/or religious classifications
