THE NATIONAL CONSTITUTION PROTOTYPE PROJECT

Building a solid foundation for long-term national success.

Some Alternatives

The following is a list of efforts that have been made by other organizations to draft and/or promote new constitutions for the United States. While any attempt to improve upon an existing constitution should be regarded as noble, it is the opinion of the National Constitution Prototype Project team that the drafts presented in the links below contain serious flaws. The most serious of these flaws include:
  • Addressing specific political issues rather than focusing on the structure and operation of the proposed government, and

  • Assuming that the general structural and operational framework provided by the existing constitution is valid.

Note that the purpose of a constitution is to provide the structure and operational framework for a government. If the existing structure and operational framework of a government is valid, there is no reason to implement a new constitution.
Similarly, embedding divisive political decisions within a constitution exceeds the purpose of a constitution and potentially acts as a poison pill, guaranteeing political opposition to the constitution and jeopardizing its survivability in the long term.
